Emerging from Swindon Works in 1949 under the ownership of British Railways it was part of the penultimate lot of 10 locomotives. Initially allocated to Tondu in South Wales, it spent periods at Oswestry and Hereford before being withdrawn from Cardiff East Dock after a 16 year working life.
